Norfolk Crush is a facility that processes 110k bushels of soybeans daily into soybean oil, soybean meal, and soy hull pellets. The Rail Loadout Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient movement and loading of hopper and tanker railcars. Operators will work through 9 level progressions starting with level 1A where subsequent levels of pay and qualification can be obtained and evaluated every 6 months.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Daily loading and movement of railcars to keep the plant fluid and maintain desired inventory levels.
  • Communication around rail movement and spotting processes to ensure there are no derailments or issues
  • Assist with other tasks including but not limited to loading trucks, moving grain, operating payloader/skid steer, housekeeping, and other miscellaneous tasks as needed.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor peer Operators to achieve goals and ensure the safe and efficient operation, production, and continuous improvement of the plant.
  • Work closely with the team to establish and follow rail loading and moving procedures.
  • Provide leadership point of view that promotes customer service, teamwork, personal accountability, cooperation, and career development.
  • Advise plant management of any staffing requirements, operational issues or shortcomings that could affect the operations.
  • Maintain designated sanitary schedule to plant standards.
  • Communicate to plant leadership any operational, logistical, or technical issues, including any mechanical breakdowns.
  • Adhere to plant operational policies and procedures and leads plant safety initiatives and instills safety-based behaviors in constant pursuit of zero lost-time and incidents.

Qualifications:

  • 1+ years’ experience in Ag industry moving and loading railcars.
  • Familiar with operating rail moving equipment
  • Understanding of load limits and operation of Compuweigh systems
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to train, coach, motivate and manage performance of team members.
  • Ability to be available for help as needed when off shift. Will work during annual shutdown week.
  • Must have effective oral and written communication across different levels and departments.
  • Desire and ability to contribute to a team environment across departments and shifts.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to help the maintenance department when needed.
  • Must have good computer skills.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to frequently bend, squat, climb, sit, stand, walk, handle objects, reach above shoulder level, use fine finger movements and push/pull.
  • Ability to occasionally kneel.
  • Ability to frequently carry/lift light to heavy loads of up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work 12-hour work days 7am to 7pm. Schedule is on Tues/Wed, off Thurs/Fri, on every other Sat/Sun/Mon. The second day crew schedule is off Tues/Wed, on Thurs/Fri, and on every other Sat/Sun/Mon.
